Inception and
Purpose
On November 2, 2004, the Bonita and Naples Bailliages (or chapters) of the international
gastronomic society known as the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs
jointly formed an organization which was incorporated as The
Culinary and Hospitality Education Foundation of Southwest Florida,
Inc. Its
purpose is to lend support to the food service and
hospitality industries by providing scholarships,
awards, financial incentives, and skills development
opportunities to deserving individuals in Southwest
Florida who are committed to furthering their education
and enhancing their careers.
Local Collaborative
Partnerships
The
Foundation has formed partnerships with L.W.I.T., high
schools in Collier and Lee Counties having culinary
programs, and high schools in Collier County that have
students attending L.W.I.T.
Further
expanding the partnership concept, the Council has
formed an alliance with the Collier and Lee
County Chapters of the Florida Restaurant Association,
the Caxambas Chapter of the
American Culinary Federation, and Collier County Hotel
and Lodging Association to identify common goals and
work collaboratively.
Fund Raising and
our Tax Exempt
Connection
Monies are
raised principally through an annual fund-raising event
the Bailliages of Bonita and Naples hold.
The Foundation received its federal tax exempt 501(c)(3)
status in January of 2005.
Scholarship Programs
The
Culinary and Hospitality Education Foundation of
Southwest Florida, Inc. has established scholarship
programs with the following institutions of high
learning: The Culinary Institute of America (CIA) in
Hyde Park, New York; Johnson & Wales University in North
Miami; and Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers,
Florida, each of which manages and administers funds we
provide.
The
availability of scholarships is publicized by these
institutions, and those interested should contact them
directly. General criteria may be found in the
Scholarships section of
this Website.
High School
Outstanding Student Awards
An award
program recognizes the Most Outstanding Culinary
Student in local culinary programs at the high school
level.
Those honored receive a commemorative gift as well as a
certificate.
Apprentice
Opportunities
The
Foundation strives to provide opportunities for students to gain valuable experience
by working at Bailliage events. Working alongside fine chefs to produce an extraordinary Chaîne dinner
is not only inspirational but provides a unique insight
into career possibilities.
Other Programs
The
Foundation evaluates special needs of the high schools
with culinary programs. Needs the Foundation has helped
meet in the past include funding of teams to enter competitions,
contributions of professional appliances and cookware,
and donations of cookbooks. In 2008, the emphasis will
be on helping fund student competitions outside Collier
County and Lee County.
